RADOM: Polish director Jacek Gwizdała is working on a biopic project The Priest / Klecha, planned as a feature drama and a TVP three-part mini-series, and focusing on Roman Kotlarz, a priest oppressed by the Communist regime.
Roman Kotlarz became a victim of the Communist Special Security in June 1976, when a wave of labourer strikes stirred Poland as a response to the Government's drastic raise of the prices of essential goods. The script is co-written by the director together with Wojciech Pestka, a writer from Radom, Kotlarz’s hometown.
"Two years ago I read a book written by Wojciech Pestka about the events in Radom in June 1976 entitled Tell the Others / Powiedzcie swoim, where I found the inspiration for my film", Jacek Gwizdała told FNE. Jacek Gwizdała is producing through V-Film with a planned budget of 1.3 m EUR / 6 m PLN, of which 465,000 EUR / 2 m PLN is production support from the Polish Film Institute and 209,000 EUR / 900,000 PLN a grant from the City of Radom.
The film stars Mirosław Baka and the cast includes Piotr Fronczewski, Andrzej Zaborski, Janusz Chabior and Lech Dyblik.
