GDYNIA: Kinga Dębska presented her new drama Playing Hard in the main competition of the 43rd Gdynia Film Festival, which wrapped on 22 September 2018.
Playing Hard follows three women struggling with alcohol - a prosecutor, a successful surgeon and a student, who are all joined by a tragedy. The cast includes Agata Kulesza, Dorota Kolak, Maria Dębska, Marcin Dorociński, Mirosław Baka, Rafał Rutkowski, Sławomir Zapała, Barbara Kurzaj, Dorota Landowska and Jowita Budnik.
"We live in a world almost drowned in alcohol, and women are quicker to become addicts. Each Pole is an alcohol savant and if someone is not drinking, he can be suspected of being a sober alcoholic. Alcoholics are disappointed idealists, they are like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. After they drink, they show you a totally different side of them", director Kinga Dębska told FNE.
The film was shot on location in Warsaw and Płock in August-September 2017. It was produced by Zbigniew Domagalski of Studio Filmowe Kalejdoskop in coproduction with Wytwórnia Filmów Dokumentalnych i Fabularnych, EBH Polska, with a budget of 1.1 m EUR / 5 m PLN including 350,000 EUR / 1.5 m PLN of financing from the Polish Film Institute.
The film will be released in Poland on 4 January 2018 distributed by Kino Świat.
