New Distribution Support for Polish Films Abroad

By

WARSAW: The Polish Film Institute has introduced a new support scheme for distribution of Polish films abroad with priority focus on art-house cinema.

The new funding scheme was created to increase the circulation of Polish films on cinema screens abroad. This applies only to majority productions. To apply, Polish producers must cooperate with a foreign distributor. The supported distribution must include at least 5 screens/theaters for feature and animation films and at least 3 screens/theaters for documentary films. The distributor’s own investment cannot be lower than 50% of the budget. P&A, dubbing, translations and transport of materials are qualifying costs.

The main goals of the newly introduced scheme are to increase the availability and recognition of Polish films abroad, with a strong focus on promoting art-house cinema, as well as the growth of potential income from international distribution and a fuller control and analysis of attendance and revenues of Polish cinema on foreign markets. The applicants can receive up to approximately 9,000 EUR for one film in one territory and up to approximately 27,000 EUR for one film in three or more territories, up to 50% of distribution costs and a separate allocation of approximately 230,000 EUR.

The funding will be assigned in 4 annual sessions and the first upcoming call is 25 February 2019.
