WARSAW: Dariusz Gajewski has finished shooting a major costume drama about the Polish Legions established by Józef Piłsudski, with a planned budget of 6.3 m EUR / 27 m PLN.

The shoot for Legions launched on 1 August 2017, with filming taking place in multiple sessions, and finished on 18 April 2019. There were 53 shooting days in total.

The film is produced by Maciej Pawlicki and his company Picaresque in coproduction with FINA, with a  budget of 6.3 m EUR / 27 m PLN. The film received financial support from the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The initiator of the project was Adam Borowski, who is also a coproducer of the film.

The script is written by Tomasz Łysiak, Dariusz Gajewski, Michał Godzic and Maciej Pawlicki. The director of Legions is Dariusz Gajewski, the vice president of the Polish Filmmakers Association, praised for his award winning dramas Warsaw (TVP) and Strange Sky (Tak Film). The DoP is Arkadiusz Tomiak. The film was shot on location in the Bieszczady Mountains, Cieszyn, Tokarnia, Stradow, the Krakow region, Mrągowo, Węgrow and Otwock. The cast includes Jan Frycz as Józef Piłsudski, Borys Szyc, Sebastian Fabiański, Antoni Pawlicki and Bartosz Gelner.

"Legions will be a classic war film presented on a major scale with the use of the most modern film techniques. We plan to showcase the most beautiful and dramatic moments of the Legion story, including the famous calvary charge during the Battle of Rokitna, which will be one of the most spectacular sequences of the film," producer Maciej Pawlicki told FNE.

The premiere is planned for 20 September 2019 with the film distributed by Kino Świat.
