Gdynia Polish Film Festival Cmpetition Spotlight: 0_1_0

By Krzysztof Kwiatkowski

0_1_0 competes in Gdynia after its dramatic premiere at the Era New Horizons Film Festival in Wroclaw, just one month after the sudden death of director Piotr Lazarkiewicz in June.

The film follows the stories of several protagonists, each of either lacking something in life or unable to cope with a circumstance. They are connected by a car accident that some are involved in and some witness.

The film was produced by Skorpion Art in cooperation with MediaBrigade and Polsat TV. The budget was just under 1.4 million zlotys, with 960,000 subsidized by the Polish Film Institute. The project was also co-financed by the City Council of Gdynia.

Active ImageLazarkiewicz belonged to a family of filmmakers. His widow, Magdalena Lazarkiewicz, is a director and the sister of Agnieszka Holland. His credits include Kocham kino, Departure, Zakleta and A Time for Witches which received a special jury award at the Gdynia festival. One of his most renowned films was the documentary Fala about the Jarocin music festival where Polish punk music was born.

Piotr's son, the rising young film composer Antoni Lazarkiewicz, wrote the score for 0_1_0. The script was written by a younger generation playwright, Krzysztof Bizio.

0_1_0 is distributed by Gutek Film. The film will open at cinemas in Poland on November 7, 2008.
