Nightwatching, directed by Peter Greenaway, has been selected as one of the 21 films in main competition at the Venice Film Festival (www.labiennale.org/en/cinema) . The film, about the painter Rembrandt and his famous Night Watch masterpiece, is a co-production with Poland, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands and the U.K.
The Polish company involved with Nightwatching is Gremi Film Production (www.gremi.pl) and the budget is estimated at €5.5 million.
In other festival news, the Estonian film Autumn Ball (Sügisball), directed by Veiko Õunpuu, has been selected for the Horizons segment, which aims to "provide a picture of the new trends in cinema."
The 64th Venice Film Festival begins August 29 and ends September 8.
