Polish co-production competing at Venice Film Festival

    Nightwatching, directed by Peter Greenaway, has been selected as one of the 21 films in main competition at the Venice Film Festival (www.labiennale.org/en/cinema) . The film, about the painter Rembrandt and his famous Night Watch masterpiece, is a co-production with Poland, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands and the U.K.

    The Polish company involved with Nightwatching is Gremi Film Production (www.gremi.pl) and the budget is estimated at 5.5 million.

    In other festival news, the Estonian film Autumn Ball (Sügisball), directed by Veiko Õunpuu, has been selected for the Horizons segment, which aims to "provide a picture of the new trends in cinema."

    The 64th Venice Film Festival begins August 29 and ends September 8.
