Polish TV Board dismissed

By FNE Staff
The board of public broadcaster Telewizja Polska (www.tvp.pl) has been dismissed.

Reports of the recall were reported on the Polish news service PAP and Reuters.

The controversial acting president of the supervisory board, 31-year-old Piotr Farfal, had drawn criticism for his right-wing political views, which were said to be influencing the station's news coverage. Some foreign co-production partners had already suspended contacts with the station in protest to the appointment of Farfal. In addition, Farfal was accused of mishandling finances.

Farfal protested the action, calling it illegal, and threatened court action.

The local TV and film industry appeared to welcome the news.
