Polish film Warrior wins Grand Prix in Canton, China

By

The Polish film Warrior (Wojowik) by Jacek Blawut won the Grand Prix at the Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival in Canton, China, which ended Dec. 8. The jury awarded with distinction a second Polish film, Tell Me Why? (Powiedz mi, dlaczego?), by Małgorzata Imielska, the Polish Film Institute said in a statement.

Warrior is the story of the rise and fall of Mark Piotrowski, the U.S. Master and three-time world champion in kick boxing, who had it all but lost it all due to health, family and financial problems. By strength of character, he returned to Poland and rebuilt his life, getting involved in other unrelated projects.

The documentary was produced by Produkcja Filmów Jacek Blawut for HBO Polska.

Tell My Why relates the love story of Jurek and Stella, which began in 1936 before World War II forced the couple apart. After the war, Jurek searched for Stella - and finally found her again 57 years later.

The film was produced by Studio Filmowe Kalejdoskop (www.kalejdoskop.art.pl) for the documentary film section of TVP1 (www.tvp.pl). The film was co-financed by Agencja Produkcji Filmowej (e-mailThis email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).
