Latest Ken Loach film opens in Poland

The latest film by Ken Loach, It's a Free World, about the exploitation of Poles and other immigrant workers in the UK, has opened in Poland. The film was shot in London, Poland and Ukraine.

The story line revolves around Angie, played by Kierston Wareing, who is let go from her job and decides to start her own employment agency, trying to attract both legal and illegal immigrants. The film explores the problems of sympathizing with immigrants while at the same time saving the jobs of domestic workers.

The film is a co-production of Britain, Poland, Germany, Spain and Italy. It won a prize for Best Script for Loach's long-time collaborator Paul Laverty at the 2007 Venice Film Festival. It premiered Feb. 29 in the United States.
