By

Shooting is under way in Warsaw for Grand Hotel, a situation comedy produced by Figaro Film Production Ltd. and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, which has the makings to become a Polish blockbuster.

Directed by Sławomir Kryński, the plot revolves around middle-aged spouses who find they are cheating on each other in the same provincial hotel. The movie has an all-star Polish cast including Katarzyna Figura, Jan Frycz and Michał Bajor, which practically guarantees it will attract strong crowds when it premieres this fall.

"Shooting started in Warsaw on March 29 and will last until May 6," Piotr Piotrowski, a producer from Figaro Film Production, told FNE. Postproduction should wind up Aug. 15.

Figaro Film produces mainly features, including films by Jan Jakob Kolski, Władysław Pasikowski and Jerzy Skolimowski. One of its most recent projects was The Third by Jan Hryniak.

Grand Hotel, whose total budget is about 3 million zloty (€854,000), is one of the largest projects to be co-financed by the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl) this year. "The PISF input in the movie is a large part of the total budget and amounts to about 1 million zloty (€295,000)," Piotr Chrzan of PISF told FNE.
