New website on Polish film production

By

An online database of Polish movie production information, launched by the Polish Filmmakers Association (www.sfp.org.pl) with financing from the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl), has become an instant hit for producers and distributors looking for an interesting project in which to participate.

The website, www.bazafilmowa.pl, contains a broad catalogue of Polish movies currently in production. It offers information on the makers of the project, the genre, the dates of shooting, production and premiere, the budget, the amount of co-financing from other producers and a short summary of the plot. For now it presents only features but soon animations and documentaries will be added.

"There really was a need for this kind of production-oriented database where one can easily find detailed information and the contacts to the makers of each movie," Anna Romanowska Wróblewska, the website's initiator and coordinator from SFP, told FNE. "During the first two days we had about 8,000 visitors. That is a major number for a portal designed for a particular occupation group."

The data on the website is being systematically broadened with the help of the SFP's partners on the project: PISF, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (www.mkidn.gov.pl) and the portal Stopklatka.pl (www.stopklatka.pl). "Because our database has a restricted amount of information focused on the production side, for more detailed descriptions, a visitor will be linked to the biggest Polish film database created by The National Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre in Łódź (www.filmpolski.pl)," said Wróblewska Romanowska.

She said the database does not have English translations, but if the sponsoring PISF seeks a bilingual website, "we will surely answer these needs."
