Poland Increases Digital Archive Programme

    WARSAW: Poland's National Film Archives announced that it will digitally restore and preserve dozens of Polish films in 2011 with funding from the Ministry of Culture.

    The project consists of two initiatives: "The Digital Repository of the National Film Archive" and "The Development of a Record System for the Presentation of the Resources of the National Archive." It also includes a Polish/English internet portal highlighting prewar feature and documentary films.

    Among the films which will be included are Jerzy Hoffman's 17th century dramas Colonel Wolodyjowski (1968) andThe Deluge (1974), Andrzej Munk's The Blue Cross (1955), and Czeslaw Petelski's The Depot of the Dead (1959).

    The archives contain as many as 16,000 films.
