PRODUCTION: First Polish Social Documentary Planned

By Katarzyna Grynienko

One of the biggest Polish music festivals will be the topic of Opener Generation, the first Polish document made with the help of the whole community of participants. The creative team behind Opener Generation, a social documentary about the Heineken Music Open'er Festival (www.opener.pl) in Gdynia, are inviting all past participants of the event to take part in the production.

The film will be a combination of short clips or other visual materials created and sent by the members of Open'er community. The project is the first social film initiative of this kind to appear in Poland.

Opener Generation (www.openergeneration.pl) is directed by Paweł Zdanowski, a young filmmaker who "sees the future of the cinema in the hands of the Internauts." He is accompanied by the co-creator of the project Jan Chichłowski, head of production Tomasz Chichłowski, web developer Marcin Waś and graphic designer Bartek Sucharski. The Opener Generation initiative falls in line with recent activity of Polish filmmakers looking for new ways of realizing their projects with the use of the web. The first successful film of this type was Everything, directed by Artur Wyrzykowski, which was fully financed by internet users. Opener Generation invites them to not only support, but co-create the production.

The production will combine gathered materials from festival participants with film shot during this year's edition of the festival in Gdynia. The premiere of the picture is planned for The Heineken Music Open'er Festival 2012. The social documentary will also be available on the Creative Commons website (www.creativecommons.org), an online platform for developing creative digital projects.
