New Polish-Russian co-production launches next year

By Katarzyna Grynienko
The Polish Film Institute and Mosfilm are on a search for the script that will launch a cooperation between the Polish and Russian cinema industries.
The Polish film daily website www.stopklatka.pl reports that during the recent Cannes festival PFI director Agnieszka Odorowicz revealed that the production of the anticipated Polish-Russian movie project will start at the beginning of next year. For now both countries are still looking for the winning script by hosting national competitions.

This movie will be the first effort of the co-operation agreement signed in the January 2008 by Agnieszka Odorowicz, the director of PFI, and Karen Shakhnazarov, the director of the legendary Mosfilm. The topic of the movie should concern Polish-Russian relations after 1991. One of the guidelines of this pact is the improvement of both Polish and Russian attitudes towards the habitants of the other country, hence the interest in a more contemporary timeline.

The PFI website reports that apart from financing for this project, the author of the script will get an additional fee of $40,000. PFI (www.pisf.pl) and Mosfilm (www.mosfilm.ru) agreed to be the co-producers but they had also reserved the right to choose other producers as well as the distributors of the future movie. More details on the project will be known after the contests end on September 30, 2008.
