FESTIVALS: TVP Films Screen in Copenhagen

By FNE Staff
WARSAW: Andrzej Żuławski is in the center of this year's edition of the CPH PIX, the Copenhagen International Film Festival taking place between 14 April - 1 May 2011. The festival will present the first full retrospective of the director with a programme that includes his early, rarely shown, Polish TV (www.tvp.pl) costume films Pavoncello and A Song of Triumphant Love.

The director's inclination to fantasy and imagination have led to comparisons of his films with the works of Andrej Tarkovsky and Stanley Kubrick.

The majority of Żuławski's films were made outside Poland, such as Blue Note (France/Germany, 1991), Boris Godunov (France/Yugoslavia/Spain, 1989), Possession (France/Germany, 1981), La Femme publique (France, 1984), La fidélité (France/Portugal, 2000), My Nights Are More Beautiful Than Your Days (France, 1989), but there are a number of important Polish films in his filmography as well, including The Third Part of the Night (1971), Devil (1972), On the Silver Globe (1987), The Shaman (1996).

CPH PIX will also screen the latest Lech Majewski's film The Mill & The Cross, one of TVP's recent coproductions.
