Revenues Up at Polsat

    WARSAW: Revenues from advertising and sponsorship at Polish commercial broadcaster Polsat (www.polsat.pl) grew 3.6 % in the first quarter of 2011, double the growth on the Polish market as a whole. Polsat is forecasting growth to reach 7% for 2011.

    Polsat's main competitor on the private market TVN (www.tvn.pl) noted a 2.5% drop in advertising revenues in the first quarter of the year.

    Polsat's revenue from commercials was 185 million PLN (EUR 47 million) while the total of income for the broadcaster in the first 3 months of the year was 236 million PLN (6 % growth). Grupa Polsat (www.cyfrowypolsat.pl) is the only media group in Poland that noted an increase in viewership during this period. Viewing among the 16-49 age group rose from 18.8% to 19.7%. Polsat's overall share was 15.9 %, making it the market leader, just ahead of with TVP1 in second place with 15.8% and TVN in third position with 15.6 %.

    Shares in Polsat, which is publicly traded on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, reached a high of 16.94 PLN at start of trading on Monday, 23 May, near the year's high of 17 PLN.
