Festival organizers working to pave the way for Polanski to accept the award in person, according to a report on Polish Radio.

Polanski's last trip outside of France, where he lives, to receive a similar award at the Zurich film festival resulted in his arrest by Swiss police. Since his release, he has not left France. Poland was vocal in its support of Polanski at the time, and organizers are hopeful that this might allow for his appearance in Gdynia.
