FNE at FIPA 2013: Prix winners

By

BIARRITZ: The 26th edition FIPA – the International Festival of Audiovisual Programmes (22-27 January 2012) was its first under the new leadership team of President Didier Decoin and former ARTE Francois Sauvagnargues as General Delegate.  Sauvagnargues was the former director of fiction at ARTE and brings a television insider’s view to the event.

Sauvagnargues told FNE that television is facing many challenges including fragmentation of the market and competition from new media like internet.  FNE TV will be bringing FNE readers a full interview of his views on the challenges ahead and the opportunities for smaller countries in Europe for cooperation with the big broadcasters.

The FIPA event annually presents about 200 programmes produced mainly for TV audiences and brings together Europe’s top broadcasters and TV programme producers mostly from France and Germany but also attracting programmes from around the world.

Programmes are screened on theatrically and compete in the categories of drams, series, creative documentaries, reportage and performing arts.  This year also saw heated debates on European auteur productions and an appearance by French Minister for Culture and Communication Aurelie Filippetti.  Broadcast heavyweights attending FIPA included Anne Durupty Director General of ARTE France, Eric Garandeau President of the CNC and Remy Pflimlin President-director general of France Televisions.

Another feature is the annual programme market FIPATEL programme market which not only allows television professionals to view programmes during the event but this year will also allow accredited buyers and professionals to view the programmes for a further 30 days after the event online.
