FNE at Connecting Cottbus: Pipeline

By

COTTBUS: Azerbaijan and Germany are teaming up Pipeline, a coproduction in the scriptwriting and development stage being pitched at Connecting Cottbus.

Ethnic conflict, gangsters and the Baku oil pipeline conspire to destroy the life of a simple shepherd and his family displaced by the occupation and war in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Writer/director Asif Rustamov also acts as producer through Buta Film, along with producer Ayhan Salar through his German company Salar Film. The 400,000 EUR film has 20,000 EUR of financing in place. The producers are looking outside of Azebaijan for funding of this independent film, with particular emphasis on Germany. The producers are aiming for a late summer-early fall shoot.

Salar, doing a solo pitch at Connecting Cottbus (while Rustamov finishes postproduction on his current film), told FNE he’s in discussions with potential French coproduction partners. Salar, describing himself as a “creative producer,” will also act as DoP on Pipeline.

The young Azerbaijani company Buta Film was founded in 2005. Rustamov, who has been working at Buta Film since 2009, is currently in postproduction with his first feature film, Downstream. Solar Film, founded in 1990, focuses on TV and film coproductions with Azerbaijan and Turkey.
