FNE at Connecting Cottbus 2013: The Load

By

COTTBUS: A Serbian film project, The Load, a gripping story of a truck driver who learns that the cargo he’s been transporting from Kosova to Belgrade contains the bodies of victims of the war in Yugoslavia, won the Post-Pitch Award of 25,000 in in-kind services at the 15th Connecting Cottbus pitching forum.

Producer Dragana Jovovic and director Ornjen Glavonic said the story was based on the real discovery that the bodies of dead Albanians were transported to Serbia and buried in mass graves. The title translates as the weight, cargo, burden, or load.

The 400,000 EUR film will apply to the Serbian Film Fund, but talks with Kosovan partners are hindered by the on-going political reality as Serbia does not recognize Kosovo and the production cannot have support from both film funds. Partners already attached include development support from the Hubert Bals Fund, the province of Vojvodina, and Dutch coproducer PRPL Films.

The film has attached a leading Croatian actor for the main role, and shooting is scheduled for fall 2014. The producers were in Cottbus seeking German coproducers and sales agents.
