BERLIN: Films from Georgia, Romania, Estonia, Poland, Hungary and a Slovak Czech Croatian coproduction have all scored slots in the 2014 Berlinale Panorama and Forum programme lineups although no film from CEE countries has been selected for the main competition this year.

In the Panorama Georgian director Tinatin Kajrishvili’s Georgian French coproduction Brides (Gemini) will be screened along with Land of Storms (Proton Cinema Llc, I'm Film, Cafe Film) by Hungarian director Adam Császi.

The Forum programme lineup includes two films from Romania, The Second Game directed by Corneliu Porumboiu and the Romanian German coproduction The Forest is Like the Mountains directed by Christiane Schmidt and Didier Guillian.

Velvet Terrorists (Hypermarket Film, Nukleus film d.o.o., Sentimentalfilm S.R.O.) directed by Ivan Ostrochovský, Pavol Pekarčík, Peter Kerekes is a three country coproduction bringing together talent from the Slovak Republic, the Czech Republic and Croatia.

One of Estonia’s best known directors, Veiko Õunpuu, scores a Forum slot with his Free Range (Homeless Production OU) and another Georgian film finds a place in the Berlinale lineup with Levan Koguashvili’s Blind Dates (Millimeter Film Production) also screening in the Forum.

Poland is represented by two women at the Berlinale with Polish UK coproduction Parasite (Filmpolis) directed by Anka Sasnal which will screen in the Forum and The Word (Opus Film) directed by Anna Kazejak a Polish Danish coproduction that screens in the Generation Programme.

Rounding out the films from the region are three shorts in the Generation Programme: Little Ruddy (Animacijas Brigade) by Dace Rīdūze and Vasa by Jānis Cimmermanis both from Lativa and Away directed by Roland Ferge from Hungary.
