FNE at Canness IFF 2014: CEE Talent Heads for Cannes

    CANNES: Talent from the central and eastern European region will be in the spotlight with the special project Les Ponts De Sarajevo an omnibus film featuring 13 European directors who explore the theme of Sarajevo and what the city represents in European history over the past hundred years, and what Sarajevo incarnates today in Europe.

    Repped by Rezo Film for world sales among the directors represented are Bulgaria’s Kamen Kalev, Romania’s Cristi Puiu and Aida Begic from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

    Poland scores three slots in the official line-up with Fragmenty, a graduation film by Agnieszka Woszczyńska, a feature co-production between Argentina, Poland and France entitled Refugiado (Polish title: Pod ochroną), lensed by Wojciech Staroń and Niebieski pokój, an animated film by Tomasz Siwiński, will screen at the 67th Cannes International Film Festival. All three films have been co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

    Croatia also scores a slot in the Critics Week short film competition with the German-Croatian co-production The Chicken, written and directed by Una Gunjak and shot entirely in Zagreb. The Croatian co-producer of The Chicken is Siniša Juričić from Nukleus film which had an international hit as the coproducer of Sofia’s Last Ambulance.

    The Czech Republic is represented in the ACID by The Way Out directed by Petr Václav a French, Czech coproduction about a young Romani couple who try to live a decent life against a background of society’s prejudices.

    Two Romanian short films have been selected. L1-L5 starring Ana Ularu in the main role, directed by Letitia Rosculet and produced by Cloud9film is selected in the Short Film Corner section.

    The short film It Can Pass Through the Wall  based on Anton Chekhov’s short story “ In the coach-house”  and directed by Radu Jude, was selected in the section Quinzaine des Realisateurs. The film is produced by Radu Jude and Ada Solomon. The film is a 100% coproduction by Micro Film, Mitra Film and Cinelabs Romania.
