FNE at Venice IFF 2014: Awards Winners

    VENICE: The top prize of the 71st Venice International Film Festival went A Pigeon Sat On A Branch Reflecting on Existence directed by Roy Andersson who picked up a Golden Lion for best film for the coproduction from Sweden, Germany, Norway and France.

    In a year marked by the absence of Hollywood from the Lido the jury headed by Alexandre Desplat the awards were dominated by European films. Croatian actor Emir Hadžihafizbegović picked up the Best Actor award in the Orizzonti section for his role in the Croatian film These Are the Rules directed by Ognjen Sviličić. The film is about a working class couple whose teenage son is beaten to death by a gang of his classmates who film the beating on their mobile phone.
    The FIPRESCI international critics jury awarded The Look of Silence by Joshua Oppenheimer as the Best Film in the main competition. The film was also the most highly rated film in the FNE FIPRESCI Venice Critics ratings that are published on FNE during Berlin, Cannes, Karlovy Vary and Venice Film Festivals. The FIPRESCI award for the Best Film of Orizzonti and Critics’ Week went to the Serbian film No One's Child by Vuk Ršumović.
