COTTBUS: Bulgarian director Iglika Triffonova, who attended the 26th Cottbus Film Festival, running through 13 November 2016, for the competition screening of her film The Prosecutor, the Defender, the Father and His Son, told FNE she is beginning work on a film set prior to WWI.

Klas Film, which produced The Prosecutor, the Defender, the Father and His Son, will produce her new film based on a Bulgarian novel about a Muslim man living during the time of the break-up of the Ottoman Empire, who is faced with finding his religious identity. Triffonova told FNE that she is applying for development funding. The script will be completed by March 2017 and the producers will look for Balkan coproduction partners.

Triffonova’s The Prosecutor, the Defender, the Father and His Son was pitched at connecting cottbus and began its festival career at Tallinn’s Black Nights Festival. It was picked up for world sales by EastWest Filmdistribution. CEO Sasha Wieser told FNE that he’s in negotiations with ARTE and the film will have a release in Germany in spring 2017. He’s also in negotiations with buyers from the US, UK, France, Spain, Serbia and China, along with other territories.
