Hungarian Sing Wins Academy Award for Live Action Short Film

    LOS ANGELES: Sing by the Hungarian director Kristof Deák won the Best Live Action Short Film at the 89th Academy Awards on 26 February 2017.

    Sing is the second Hungarian live-action short film that received an Oscar nomination, after Concert (1963) by István Szabó.

    Toni Erdmann by Maren Ade was nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film of the Year category and Blind Vaysha by Bulgarian Theodore Ushev was nominated in the Best Short Film Animated category at the 89th Academy Awards.

    The Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year went to The Salesman (Iran, France), directed by Asgar Farhadi.

    Toni Erdmann won the award for Best International Film at the 32nd Independent Spirit Awards on 25 February 2017.

    Toni Erdmann was produced by Komplizen Film in coproduction with coop 99, knm, Missing Link Films, SWR, WDR, ARTE, HiFilm Productions. It was shot mainly in Romania with HiFilm Productions servicing.
