Reding urges earlier digital transition

By FNE Staff
Viviane Reding, the EU Commissioner for media, has urged EU member states to push for faster transition from analog to digital TV.

Reding said, in a presentation in Brussels, that transitioning ahead of the 2012 deadline "would increase the potential economic impact of the digital dividend by an additional 50 billion euros between now and 2015."

Reding also announced a consultation period running through September to study ways EU members can cooperate on the new digital market and increase financial benefits.
