Eastern Plays screenings for Lux Prize

By FNE Staff
The European Parliament LUX Prize will begin screening of the Bulgarian/Swedish co-production Eastern Plays from director Kamen Kalev on November 10 in Brussels.

The winner of the LUX prize (www.lux-prize.eu), which is voted on by members of the European Parliament, will be announced on November 25 in Strasbourg.

Kalev's film is one of three finalists for the prize. The other films in competition are Sturm (Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands); and Welcome (France). These were selected out of 10 proposed by a panel of 17 cinema professionals appointed by the European Parliament's Committee on Education and Culture.

The prize comes with an award of approximately 87,000 Euros. It will finance subtitling in the EU's 23 official languages, including the adaptation of the original version for visually- or hearing-impaired people, and, for each EU member state, the production of a 35-mm print per member state or a contribution to the DVD release.
