By FNE Staff
Slovak director Péter Kerekes has been awarded the Viennale's Vienna Film Prize for best documentary for Cooking History.

Cooking History is an Austrian/Slovak/Czech co-production. The film received support from the Slovak Ministry of Culture, The Vienna Film Fund, the Austrian Film Institute, the Czech film fund, and the EU MEDIA Programme.

The Festival decided to split the main prize this year and award both the best feature film, Jessica Hausner's Lourdes, and the best documentary.

The Jury composed of Marie-Christine Friedrich, Esther Stocker, Markus Hinterhäuser, Hans Langsteiner, Josef Winkler awarded the film with the statement, "For the incredibly unconventional approach with which here the fundamental process of eating is brought to the boil using staged witness statements and original footage. The result is a perverted culinary feast of war, spiced with a pinch of sarcasm."

SPI (www.spi-film.sk) handles film distribution in Slovakia. Taskovski Films (www.taskovskifilms.com) is the international sales agent.
