EFP launches Euro-Canadian co-production lab

By FNE Staff
European Film Promotion is partnering with with the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) and the Toronto International Film Festival to launch the Producers Lab Toronto September 10-12.
The initiative is aimed at facilitating and increasing international co-productions between European and Canadian producers.

The three-day event will include pitching sessions, round table meetings and case studies, where European producers and their Canadian counterparts will discuss concrete co-production opportunities between Europe and Canada. The new MEDIA International Programme of the European Union is financially supporting the initiative.

With PRODUCERS LAB TORONTO, EFP expands and builds upon its PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE platform which has been a staple of the organisation's presence at the Cannes International Film Festival since 1999. The 2010 PRODUCERS LAB TORONTO will feature twelve European producers from twelve different European countries who have previously participated in either the 2007, 2008 or 2009 editions of PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE. The twelve producers from Canada will be selected by OMDC and TIFF.

All participants must have a track record of successful project development and production, be experienced in international co-production and have concrete projects which could benefit - both creatively and financially - from a European and Canadian partnership. The group of 24 producers invited to take part in PRODUCERS LAB TORONTO will be announced in July.

According to EFP (www.efp-online.com) Managing Director, Renate Rose, "The Toronto International Film Festival has been our close partner for 13 years and this new initiative will offer a carefully selected group of European producers a new opportunity to partner on their projects with their peers from oversees. To be able to build on the solid foundation of PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE, and offer new outlets for financing and co-production at such a prestigious and important international event is very exciting."
