Digital screens see dramatic increase in CEE

    Central and Eastern Europe saw a 258% increase in the number of digital screens in 2009, according to the latest figures from the European Audiovisual Observatory.

    Poland is a leader in the field, with 176 screens accounting for 3.8% of all screens in the country. Turkey follows, with 62 screens.

    The Czech Republic registered an impressive jump, from just 2 screens in 2008 to 50 screens by the end of 2009.

    Other CEE territories include: Bulgaria, 23 screens; Estonia, 5 screens; Croatia, 8 screens; Hungary, 31 screens; Lithuania, 5 screens; Latvia, 3 screens; Romania, 41 screens; Slovenia, 9 screens; Slovakia, 10 screens.

    In Cyprus, Croatia, Lithuania, Latvia, Malta, Serbia, Slovenia and Slovakia,nearly all of the digital screens are 3D screens.
