By FNE Staff

The European Documentary Network has presented its 2008 EDN Award to the Prague-based Institute of Documentary Film, citing its "enthusiastic and energetic work" in developing and promoting Central and Eastern Europe documentaries. The award was presented Friday (March 14) at the international documentary pitching session Docs in Thessaloniki, the EDF said in a statement.

IDF was established in 2001 by directors and producers of documentary films. Since then the institute has established a workshop for developing new documentary projects, the East European Forum for financing projects, and the East Silver Market for selling finished films.

EDN is a Copenhagen-based organisation for professionals working with documentary film and television. EDF has over 900 members from more than 60 countries.
