FESTIVALS: Spotlight on Slovakia at Black Nights

    The Black Nights film festival taking place in Tallinn (www.poff.ee) through 5 December 2010 is presenting a selection of five Slovak films from the Czechoslovak New Wave of 1960s in a special section dedicated to the period under the title: New Wave of Czechoslovakia.

    The selected films are: The Sun in the Net (orig. Slnko v sieti) by Stefan Uher, 1962; Dragon's Return (orig. Drak sa vracia) by Eduard Grecner, 1967; The Prime of Life (orig. Kristove roky) by Juraj Jakubisko, 1967; The Celebration of the Botanical Garden (orig. Slavnost v botanickej zahrade) by Elo Havetta; and 322 by Dusan Hanak, 1969.

    Two recent Slovak co-productions are being presented in the festival programme:Surving Life (orig. Prezit svoj zivot) by Jan Svankmajer, CZ - SK 2010; and 3 Seasons in Hell (orig. Tri sezony v pekle) by Tomas Masin, CZ - DE - SK 2009.

    Slovakia is also represented by Daniel Vadocky, programmer of Art Film Fest, serving on the Jury of the Sleepwalkers - Student and Short Film Festival in Tallinn.
