FNE at Cannes IFF 2011: False Witness Wins ScripTeast Award

    CANNES: Bulgarian Script writer Iglika Triffonova was awarded the Krzysztof Kieslowski Award for best Eastern and Central European Script at a gala awards ceremony in during Cannes IFF on 18 May. The award was for her script False Witness and carries a cash prize of 10,000 Euros.

    Special Mention went to Hungarian script writers Bence Miklauzic and Ferenc Lengyel for their script Car Park.
    The decision was made by the distinguished members of the Advisory Board members: Sandy Lieberson, Manfred Schmidt, ScripTeast heads of studies Tom Abrams and Christian Routh and ScripTeast founder Dariusz Jablonski.

    ScripTeast (www.scripteast.pl) was created by Polish director and producer Dariusz Jablonski in collaboration with producers Violetta Kaminska and Izabela Wojcik. It is funded mainly by EU MEDIA, the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl) and Apple Productions (www.applefilm.pl) and it has become one of the most successful script writing and development projects in Europe in its five years of existence with a very high rate of the scripts that go through the programme going on to be made into films.

    Speaking to FNE at the awards ceremony ScripTeast participant and Slovak scriptwriter Biba Bohinska said: "The concept of Dariusz Jablonski was wonderful. We worked with people from many different countries and each country had a different point of view. This helped me to make my script truly international and it can now be understood in many different countries. It was an absolutely useful experience for me."

    ScripTeast is organized by the Independent Film Foundation and supported
    by Media Program of EU, Polish Film Institute and Apple Film Production,
    in cooperation with the European Film Academy, the ACE Program, Producers
    Network, Final Draft, Film New Europe (www.filmneweurope.com) and festivals in Berlin, Cannes and
    Karlovy Vary.

    Competing for the prize were scripts from eight Eastern and Central European countries:

    • SANCTUARY by Wojciech Kasperski (Poland)

    • TEN COMMANDMENTS by Gabor Herendi and Reka Divinyi (Hungary)
