Moscow IFF Competition: Serdtsa Bumerang

By Nailya Golman

Serdtsa Bumerang is the third feature film by Nikolay Khomeriki.

It tells the story of Kostya, a young man who works as an assistant of a machinist on the subway. One day doctors tell him that he has a weak heart and that he could die any day. The young man decides not to tell anyone about his sickness. He is trying to live his life as usual, but instead starts to think more and more about the true meaning of life.

The film was shot after a three-month-long preparation period in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg. Filming took place between 26 December and 6 February 2011. The budget was $40 million, with $28 millions from the Valday company (sponsored by the Ministry of Culture), and $12 million from a company belonging to partner and co-producer Anna Rogozina. All the rights to the film belong to the 'Valday' company, whose web-site is currently under construction. The producers told FNE that they plan a theatrical release to begin in one year, after the film is screened in several festivals.
