FNE at KVIFF East of the West Competition: Mother's Paradise

    Shortly after The Light Thief (2010), the Kyrgyz filmmaker Aktan Arym Kubat presents a new feature film, Mother's Paradise.

    {mosimage}For Mother's Paradise/ Raj dlja mamy, Aktan Arym Kubat (also know as Aktan Abdykalikov) used a script written by the acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf. The film will have its world premiere in East of the West section of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

    The story is set in a village of Kazakhstan where the children Amir and Serikpai were left behind by their father who went to Russia in search for work. They are raised by their mother, Polina. She does her best in trying to compensate the father's disappearance, but it is difficult for her without a husband, too, and she is forced to do what she thinks is right.

    The film is social drama told in a poetic manner by a filmmaker already appreciated by Western Europe. Aktan Arym Kubat (born in 1957) was recognized for the short film The Dog Was Walking By/It zhugirdende in 1990. He directed the features The Adopted Son/Beshkempir (2001), Maimil (2001), and The Light Thief /Svet-Ake (2010).

    Mother's Paradise/ Raj dlja mamy is produced by Sergey Azimov and Tanaris Production (www.tns-group.kz) from Kazakhstan. Its international sales are handled by the French company B-Tween (www.b-tween.fr).
