GRANTS: TIFF Receives Largest CNC Grant

    BUCHAREST: Tranyslvania International Film Festival (www.tiff.ro) received the biggest grant, 144,418 Euro (621,000 RON) from the National Centre for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro) for its 2012 edition.

    Other Romanian festivals received far less funding. The first edition of the Cine-Politica, a festival organized by the Culture and Image Association (23-29April) received 71,162 Euro (306,000 RON). NexT Internation Short and Medium Length Film Festival (www.nextfilmfestival.ro, 28 March - 1 April) got 37,227 Euro (160,080 RON), and B-EST International Film Festival (www.b-est.ro) got 34,780 Euro (149,558 RON).

    Overall, 10 film festivals organized in the first half of 2012 (between 1 January and 30 June 2012) received 383,721 Euro (1,650,001 RON). The Romanian national film body also granted 52,159 Euro (224,285 RON) to Romanian Film Promotion (www.romfilmpromotion.ro) for the Gopo Prizes Gala (26 March 2012). The Romanian Film Promotion also received 35,623 Euro (153,180 RON) for the National stand at Cannes Film Festival and 28,395 Euro (122,099 RON) for the National stand at the Berlinale.

    Overall, CNC granted 668,581 Euro (2,874,901 RON) for festivals, galas, books, catalogues, DVDs and workshops. The grants are announced twice a year.
