Romanian Telenovelas Gain World Sales

    {mosimage}BUCHAREST: Romanian telenovelas are finding increased sales on the international market. Since their first sales in South America and in the USA in 2006, Romanian telenovelas are branching out to newer territories in the Middle East and West Africa.


    {mosimage}Anca Truţă, General Manager at MediaPro Distribution (www.mediaprodistribution.com, under construction), the exclusive distributor of the local programs produced by MediaPro Entertainment (www.mediaproentertainment.com), told FNE, "Since 2006 MediaPro Distribution has sold telenovelas made by MediaPro Entertainment in more than 85 territories."

    Among the titles sold in South America and in the USA so far are A Bet with Life/Pariu cu viaţa, In the Name of Honor/Iubire şi onoare, Gypsy Heart/Inimă de ţigan and Little Angels/Îngeraşii. The Romanian series In the Name of Honor/Iubire şi onoare and Little Angels/Îngeraşii, and the Croatian series Lara's Choice/ Larin izbor were sold in the Middle East and in South Africa.

Not without modesty, the quality of the production, the originality of the stories, the artistic interpretation and the locations chosen for the telenovelas produced by MediaPro Entertainment in Romania, Croatia and Slovakia are seldom superior to the Latin-American telenovelas," Truţă told FNE, adding that given their complexity, they are marketed as drama series not as classic telenovelas.
