Sundance Selects Picks up Mungiu’s Beyond the Hills

    {mosimage}BUCHAREST: Cristian Mungiu's Beyond the Hills (working title Provisory) will be distributed in North America by Sundance Selects (www.sundanceselects.com), the sister company of IFC Films (www.ifcfilms.com) which distributed Mungiu's 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days in this territory. The film is expected at Cannes this year.

    The story written by Mungiu takes place in a monastery where two girlfriends are reunited after several years. The decision of one of them to take refuge in faith disappoints the other, and her behavior soon makes the others suspect her of being possessed. The film is inspired by true events happened in Romania in 2005.

    Beyond the Hills is produced by Mungiu with Mobra Films (www.mobrafilms.ro) together with Pascal Cauchteaux with Why Not Productions (www.whynotproductions.fr) and Jean-Pierre Dardenne with Les Films du Fleuve. Wild Bunch (www.wildbunch.biz) is handling international sales.

    The cast includes: Cosmina Stratan, Cristina Flutur, Dana Tapalagă, and Cătălina Harabagiu. The premiere is not yet set. Operated by AMC Networks, Inc (www.amcnetworks.com), Sundance Selects is a sister division to IFC Films and IFC Midnight (www.ifcfilms.com/ifc-midnight).
