BUCHAREST: Dan Piţa (Stone Wedding) is in early preproduction with a cinematic adaptation of Romanian writer Panait Istrati’s 1923 novella Chira Chiralina.

Ioan Grigorescu and Piţa wrote the script, and Vlad Păunescu is producing together with Castel Film Studios (www.castelfilm.ro). The project received a production grant of 308,685 EUR/1,296,480 RON from the National Centre for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro) in 2008.

“Shooting will start in the second half of September and will wrap October,” Bogdan Moncea, marketing manager with Castel Film Studios, told FNE. Shooting will take place in the studio and on location. The cast is not set.

With the aura of an Oriental tale, Chira Chiralina retraces the tragic destiny of a beautiful and mysterious woman who is selling her charms to men together with her mother. The premiere is set for 2013.
