Doge’s Palace and The Bed Is Broken Win Aristoteles Workshop

    VAMA, ROMANIA: An all-Romanian team and a Polish director-led team were the split decision winners of the five-week-long 7th Aristoteles documentary workshop (www.aworkshop.org) ended which concluded on 23 September 2012.

    Four teams each of three members (director, DOP, editor) selected from almost 100 applications searched for a subject, shot and edited a 30 minute documentary. The students came from Romania, Poland, Croatia, Czech Republic, Moldavia and Slovakia. The mentors and tutors were: Jeroen  Berkvens (Holland), Rafi Pitts (Iran), Jacques Deschamps (France) and Tania Rakhmanova (Russia).

    The jury composed of André de Margerie, head of International Affaires at ARTE France (www.arte.tv), TreasaO'Brien, festival producer and programmer with Open City LondonDocumentary Festival (www.opencitydocsfest.com), and Romanian directors Cristi Puiu and Stere Gulea handed a joint win to Doge’s Palace (by Polish director Julia Groszek, shot by the Romanian Cristi Moldovan and edited by the Romanian Letiţia Ştefănescu) and The Bed Is Broken(directed by Raluca Gorgos, shot by Ana Maria Vijdea and edited by Dan Ştefan Pârlog - all Romanians). The Romanian press jury awarded the same films.

    The workshop was supported by ARTE France and the National Center for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro), with the help of iStyle Bucharest (www.istyle.ro) and AVIS Rent a Car (www.avis.ro).
