Romania Set New Deadline for Analog to Digital Crossover

By

BUCHAREST: The National Radiocommunications Society (www.radiocom.ro) will receive a TV digital multiplex to broadcast Romanian TV public channels (www.tvr.ro).

A draft of a Government Order on the terrestrial analog television to terrestrial digital television crossover was posted for public debate on the website of the Ministry of Communications and Informational Society (www.mcsi.ro).

The state will give five multiplexes as follows: four national digital multiplexes for terrestrial digital television in UHF (ultra high frequency) and one for the terrestrial digital television in VHF (very high frequency). Supplementary multiplexes might be allotted locally, given the technical possibilites.

The deadline for the cessation of analog transmissions is 17 June 2015.

Public channel TVR1 is expected to broadcast via analog VHF and in digital for a short period. The broadcasting of TVR2 will cease gradually, and 80% of the territory should be covered by 31 December 2016.The other four multiplexes will be given by the National Authority for Administration and Regulation in Communications (www.ancom.org.ro) after 17 June 2015.

Romania was originally required to make the transition from analog to digital by 1 January 2012, but in August 2010 pushed the deadline to January 2015.
