Romania’s Family Film Takes new Chisu’s Chasing Rainbows on the Road

BUCHAREST: Dan Chisu's Chasing Rainbows, will be released on 2 November 2012 in eight Romanian towns and on 15 screens.

The film is produced by Giuliano Doman and Family Film (www.familyfilm.ro), together with Chisu’s DaKINO Production.

DaKINO Production is distributing the film. Panalight Romania (www.panalight.ro), which provided shooting equipment, is coproducing. The film will travel by caravan to 22 towns starting 8 November.

Doman told FNE that he expects good feedback from the audience. "Since the film is a sad comedy about people's illusion of getting rich overnight, I think it will find a good reception," he said.

He also explained why he got involved in the project: "The idea totally conquered me from the very moment Dan presented to me. Then we applied twice at the grants contest from CNC (www.cncinema.abt.ro), and being rejected twice only made us more ambitious to do a film which might appeal both to the public and to festivals." The film has been selected to screen at the Cairo Film Festival.

Chişu says that when you have an independent production, "The most difficult thing is to close the financing because in Romania, if you don't have a grant from the CNC, you can't find money at the television channels or advertising agencies - the traditional partners of film productions since they can deduct it from their debt to the CNC."

The film tells the story of a storekeeper who loses his job at a warehouse when it is updated for the technology age. The budget was 255,000 EUR, and the film was shot in September-October 2010.
