A petty business with 50 000 horseshoes is the only thing that separates Mara and Petro from living their dream of becoming “managers”. In a country where becoming a small business owner seems to be the ultimate goal, they believe that the odds are most certainly in their favour.
The project was selected for pitching at Molodist Kiev (www.molodist.com) and Baltic Event (www.be.poff.ee), and it is awaiting a green light from major markets in Western Europe.
Alien Film is producing in co-production with Jelio Jelev and Jelfilm (Bulgaria). Negotiations with European co-producers and distributors are underway. From the budget of 1,170,000 EUR, 33% is already in place from co-producers and a production grant of 111,000 EUR (.5m RON), received from the National Center for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro) in 2008, according to representatives from Alien Film.
Afacerea Est/Eastern Business is written by Igor Cobileanski and will be shot by Veaceslav Cebotari. Ion Grosu, Sergiu Voloc and Igor Caras, with whom Cobileanski worked on his short films, are favoured as cast. Shooting is planned for fall 2013 in Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova, with the premiere set for spring 2014.
