Directed by London based Romanian filmmakerIlinca Călugăreanu Chuck Norris vs Communism (www.chucknorrisvscommunism.co.uk) is a 70 minute documentary focusing on the popular culture of the video cassettes in Romania in the last 10 years of the communism. One of the people interviewed is Irina Nistor, who translated and dubbed some 5,000 films distributed on the black market.
The film is produced by Mara Adina and Dara Carroll together with the British Vernon Films Ltd (www.vernonfilms.co.uk), in coproduction with Rachel Wexler and the British Bungalow Film Productions (www.bungalow-town.com), Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan of Romania’s 4Proof Films (www.4prooffilm.ro) and Stefan Kloss through Kloss & Co (www.kloosundco.de).
The budget is 422,124 EUR, Mara Adina told FNE. The crowd funding, which will run for six weeks, includes pre-buy downloads and other items.
Jose Ruiz is the DOP and Nandita Jain the animator of the film. Renowned violonist Alexander Balanescu will compose the score. The film is set to be finished in autumn 2013.
