BUCHAREST: Child's Pose directed by Calin Peter Netzer set a 20 year opening weekend box office record in Romania, taking in 59,407 EUR/ 259,217 RON.
The film, which received the 2013 Berlinale Golden Bear and FIPRESCI Award, also set a 10 year admissions record, with 19,729 tickets sold on opening weekend.
The results continue the new popularity of domestic films in Romania, with notable results for the comedies Sweet Little Lies/Minte-mă frumos (14,011 tickets and 50,036EUR/229,000RON ) and Of Snails and Men/Despre oameni şi melci in the second half of 2012.
Child’s Pose opened on 8 March 2013, distributed by Parada Film on 37 screens in more than 20 towns.
The old record was set by Cristian Mungiu's 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days/4 luni, 3 săptămâni şi 2 zilewith 10,851 admissions in the first weekend in 2007.
The German company Beta Cinema is negotiating the final rights for the film worldwide.
