    Non-show Mungiu Steals the Show Everybody in Our Family, Producer Ada Solomon

    BUCHAREST: Romanian director Cristian Mungiu received an Excellency Prize from the Romanian Filmmakers Union (UCIN), despite his refusal to allow his film Beyond the Hills/După dealuri to compete for the UCIN awards.

    Because of the film’s absence, the jury of the Romanian Filmmakers Union (UCIN) decided not to nominate any films in the best film category.

    Two films received four awards each. Everybody in Our Family a Romanian/Dutch coproduction from HiFilms Production, Circe Film and Abis Studio won Best director (Radu Jude), Best actress (Mihaela Sîrbu), Best actor (Şerban Pavlu) and Best supporting actress (Sofia Nicolaescu). Silviu Purcărete’s Somewehere in Palilula/Undeva la Palilula (produced by Libra Film) was awarded Best Cinematography, Best Original Music, Best Art Direction and Best Costumes.

    Tudor Giurgiu’s Of Snails and Men/Despre oameni şi melci, a Romanian-French coproduction from Libra Film and Agat Films &Cie, won three prizes: the Special Jury Prize, Best Script and Best Editing.

    The Best Debut was awarded to Gabriel Achim’s Adalbert’s Dream/Visul lui Adalbert produced by Green Film in coproduction with 4Proof Film.

    Tudor Smoleanu received the prize for Best Supporting Actress in Dan Chişu’s Chasing Rainbow’s/Şi caii sunt verzi pe pereţi produced by Family Film and DaKino Production.

    Bogdan Ilie-Micu’s A Dream’sMerchant/Un gând, un vis, Doyle şi-un pix was awarded Best Documentary.

    Producer Ada Solomon (Child’s Pose, Everybody in Our Family) received an Excellency Prize for special contribution in promoting new filmmakers. The UCIN prizes, which have been awarded since 1971, were announced on 15 March 2013.
