FNE Cannes Preview 2013: Romanian films at Cannes 2013

By

Romania is represented at this year’s Cannes Film Festival by two productions, the short film Shadow of a Cloud by Radu Jude, in the Quinzane des Realisateurs section and In the Fishtank, by Tudor Jurgiu, selected in the Cinefondation section.

Shadow of a Cloud tells the story of a priest, played by theater director Alexandru Dabija, who, on a torrid summer day, is called to say a prayer to a woman on her deathbed, while In the Fishtank is the story of a couple trying to break up.

In addition, Romanian film director Cristian Mungiu is a member of the official jury of the Cannes Film festival, alongside international movie stars such actress Nicole Kidman, Taiwanese filmmaker Ang Lee and Austrian actor Cristoph Waltz.

Anca Puiu was selected in the Producers on the Move programme

Romanian producer Anca Puiu, the head of the Mandragora production company, was selected to take part in the European Film Promotion (EFP) programme PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE, now in its 14th year at the film festival in Cannes.

The group of former participants includes such internationally known and award-winning producers as Ada Solomon from Romania (Child's Pose), Bettina Brokemper from Germany (Bal), Louise Vesth from Denmark (Melancholia) and Siniša Juričić from Croatia (Sofia’s Last Ambulance).

Scheduled during the Cannes International Film Festival, the programme provides its participants with additional visibility, which is plenty available in this melting pot for filmmakers, sales agents, financiers and the international media.
