BUCHAREST: Alien Film Productions and Multi Media Est are developing Bogdan Bărbulescu's first feature, a tragicomedy set to be released in 2016.
Vasile tells the story of two brothers, Vasile and Ilie, raised in an orphanage and expelled from it once they turn 18. Ilie, the older one, decides that they should start robbing for a living, and Vasile's disapproval will melt once their first hit is a success. The film will following these complementary souls as they try to survive in a merciless world. Bărbulescu is writing the script.
The budget is 800,000 EUR, Iuliana Tarnoveţchi from Alien Film Productions told FNE. The film is a Romanian coproduction between Alien Film Productions and Multi Media Est. The project received a development grant of 7,586 EUR/33,532 RON from the National Centre for Cinema in April 2013. The shooting dates will depend on the next grant round organised by the National Centre for Cinema, but is likely to take place in autumn 2014 or 2015.
Bărbulescu directed the crime series Băieţi buni/Good Guys produced by MediaPro Pictures in 2005.
