Romanian Docus Forecast for Growth is Sunny

    More collaboration with public TV resources would mean a blossoming of Romanian docu production and distribution, according to study session by Aradocs, a joint project of the Romanian documentary filmmakers and producers association DocuMentor and the European Documentary Network.

    EDN reports that a two-day conference of 35 industry professionals in July targeted the relationship between public broadcaster SRTV and independent Romanian producers, considering angles for strengthening coordination. Funding for docu makers among civic society resources was a key topic, with optimistic predictions for future work.

    Claudio Saftoiu, CEO of the Romanian pubcaster, concluded that "Romanian public television and independent producers will very soon have common projects to stand for," EDN reports.

    Contributing experts included Saftoiu, producers, NGOs, directors, journalists and staff of news channel DIGI 24. Franz Grabner, commissioning editor, ORF, Austria, Claire Aguillar of the US's ITVS, Greece's Kostas Spiropoulos, ex-CEO of ERT and founder of Storydoc, Israel's Guy Davidi, director of Five Broken Cameras, and French producer Christine Camdessus.
