BUCHAREST: Romania’s National Centre for Cinema and France’s Le Centre National du Cinéma et de l'image animée signed a joint declaration on 29 October 2013, promising regular communication and the encouragement of coproduction, distribution, expertise, film education, heritage preservation and fighting against piracy.

The declaration follows the coproduction agreement signed by the French governement and the Romanian governement in Cannes in 2009. A team of experts along with Frédérique Bredin, the head of the French CNC, spent almost a week in Bucharest meeting with experts from the local CNC and Romanian filmmakers. The French delegation also participated in the screenings of the 4th edition of the festival Les films de Cannes à Bucarest, initiated by Cristian Mungiu.

Mungiu is said to be the person who facilitated the encounter. The joint declaration signed under the umbrella of Mungiu's festival by Mihai Ioan Kogălniceanu, the head of the Romanian CNC, and Frédérique Bredin, the head of the French CNC, in the presence of the Romanian minister of Culture and National Heritage Daniel Barbu says that both parties will assist each other through their policies in order to protect and promote their cultural products through cinema.
